November 23 Nanowrimo Wreport- We have a Winner

Last night, SJ finished the first draft of her Nanowrimo Novel, Perfect?, topping off at 28,284 words.  Hooray!  Considering that her original goal was 10000 words, this is fantastic.  In the vidcast, I say that I have 42000 or 43000 words.  I just checked and it’s  about 44400.

Back to the word mines for me.

November 20- Words, Words, Words

On November 16, I got to perform at the Toronto Nanowrimo Halfway Party and Geeky Book Swap. About 70 people were there sharing nanowrimo stories, swapping geek books (Bring a book, Take a Book.  We brought about a dozen geeky books and came back at about par. SJ really likes her new Zombie Apocolypse Survival Guide).  There were about 7 different geeky musical acts performing including:

– Debs and Errol
– Kari Maaren
– Copy Red Leader
– Press Start 2 Play
– Rock, Paper, Cynic
and even one ductapeguy.    The night before, I even wrote a Nanowrimo song to perform at the event.  Enjoy.

Words, Words, Words
November 15, 2013 Words and Lyrics © Sean McGaughey

On a chilly dark Halloween night
Turn in early and turn out the lights
It doesn`t much matter
If you`re a pantser or planner.
Tomorrow we all start to write.

Morning coffee and tea by the pot
As we wrestle with setting and plot.
Your hero’s in the middle of a confounding riddle,
Who’s answer you once knew but forgot.

Words, Words, Words,
We need fifty thousands words
We write all the time-o
Cause it’s Nano-Wrimo
Our efforts may seem quite absurd.
Buddy have you heard,
Everyone has a pile of words
Will mine be a New York Times
Best selling novel
or a steaming pile of… (Words, words, words)

The garbage is starting to reek
I haven’t showered in nearly a week,
We’re down to one nighty and a pair of tighty whiteys
And the dishes are piled in the seenk.

The story is coming together,
Haven’t noticed the change in the weather,
I’ve not read the news, or heard Rob Ford’s Blues
till I came to the halfway gettogether.

Words, Words, Words,
We need fifty thousands words
We write all the time-o
Cause it’s Nano-Wrimo
Our efforts may seem quite absurd.
Buddy have you heard,
Everyone has a pile of words
Will mine be a New York Times
Best selling novel
or a steaming pile of… (Words, words, words)

November 19 Nanowrimo Report

In which we discuss our weekend with Sean’s Birthday Party, the Toronto Geeky Book Swap/ Nanowrimo halfway party, SJ’s Tornoto Nano teen write-in  at a Starbucks on Yonge Street, and our progress with our novels.

Halfway there!

SJ and I had did a vidcast talking about our progress so far with our stories on the halfway day of nanowrimo. Oh, and I`ve been adding variety to our word wars by using some of the novelty  classroom timers  at online-stopwatch.com.

SJ and I are both on a roll. She crossed 14000 today while I reached the halfway 25000. I am a little unsure that I have 25000 words left in my story as I have just wrapped up the first three majour sections of the book and only have one more. But there should be more than enough episodes in that section to carry me through November. If not, I have a fallback of writing the story in parallel in the viewpoint of another one of the characters. Either way, this is becoming very real.

Whoa. A week without blog updates. We have been focusing on writing. By Day 6, SJ had met her goal for the month of 10,000 words. Woohoo. She has kept writing and upped her goal to 15000 words. Not too shabby for the first time for a teenager.
I keep plugging along and passed 20000 words last night. Here are our tired reflections after our morning word war this morning.

Nov 4

Daylight savings time. We were both up at 5ish instead of 6. Started our write a little after six. I found the going slow but steady today. I only got 760 words in the hour. SJ finished her daily word goal in about 25 minutes and wandered off… Heave, Ho. Just another day in the word mines.
